Portable Music - How do you transfer music to an iPod?

There are several ways to transfer music to your iPod. First, you can transfer music from an external source, such as a CD, to iTunes. Here are the steps involved:

1. Insert CD into your computer.
2. When prompted to import the songs, double click on “iTunes”
3. iTunes will probably automatically start importing your CD, but if not, choose “Import CD” from the lower right corner of the screen.
4. Sometimes, if the CD is a burned one, it will not contain the disc information such as the title and performer. You may enter this yourself.

The other way to transfer music to your iPod is from your computer. If you have recently put songs onto iTunes, either by purchasing them through the iTunes store or by uploading them another way (such as the methods described below), you will then need to update your iPod so it is in sync with iTunes. You can select different modes for updating your iPod, including:

1. Automatically update all songs and playlists
2. Automatically update selected playlists, or
3. Manually manage music.

The default mode, and the easiest choice, is to have iTunes automatically update all songs and playlists, unless you don’t have room on your iPod for everything, or if you want to limit what songs and playlists are uploaded to your iPod. If the number of songs you have on iTunes exceeds the iPod’s capacity, iTunes will select the songs, audiobooks and podcasts either at random or as directed by the user.

If you have music files loaded onto other software, or in other folders, on your computer, you can manually import these songs into iTunes. One way to accomplish this is as follows:

1. Click “File”
2. “Add File to Library”
3. Find the song or file you wish to add
4. Click “Open”.

This method may take some time if you have multiple files, so you also have the option of finding the folder those files are in, and using the drag-and-drop method. To do this, simply select one or many (by holding “control” or “shift” on your keyboard) files and then drag them into your music library directly.

You can also put all of the music files you wish to add into one folder. Then, instead of clicking “Add File to Library”, you can click “Add Folder to Library” and find that folder, and the music will be added to your library.

Another way to transfer music to an iPod is by doing so between two computers. This way, the iPod serves as a hard disk. (The iPod touch models do not have sufficient capacity for this feature.) Using the iPod in “disk mode”, these are the steps involved:

1. Drag any file to the iPod.
2. Disconnect the iPod.
3. Connect it to another computer.
4. Drag the file from the iPod to the second computer.

Using these methods of putting your favorite songs onto your iPod will guarantee success in listening your music on-the-go!
